Gulfstream G650 – The Record Maker

Gulfstream G650 came out as the pinnacle of private aviation. Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation designed this plane to redefine what it means to fly. Known for its remarkable speed, ultra-long range, and unparalleled comfort, the G650 has become the crown jewel of Gulfstream’s fleet. 

Gulfstream G650: A Landmark in Aviation Technology

The Gulfstream G650 and its extended-range variant, the G650ER, represent a significant leap forward in aviation technology. Built on the legacy of the Gulfstream G500 and G600, the program began in 2005 and quickly gained momentum. By 2008, the first prototype was unveiled, leading to its inaugural flight on November 25, 2009, piloted by Jake Howard and Tom Horne, with Bill Osborne as the flight engineer. After rigorous testing and fine-tuning, the G650 achieved its certification in 2012, marking it as Gulfstream’s flagship business jet. Two years later, in 2014, the G650ER was introduced, with a 500-nautical-mile range extension.

Specifications and Performance 

The Gulfstream G650’s size and design are all about maximizing space and comfort. Measuring 99 feet 9 inches in length with a wingspan of 99 feet 7 inches, this jet combines sleek aerodynamics with functionality. Its height of 25 feet 4 inches ensures an impressive presence on any tarmac.

Interior Design for Ultimate Comfort

Inside the cabin, the focus shifts entirely to passenger comfort. With 46 feet 10 inches of length, a width of 8 feet 6 inches, and a height of 6 feet 5 inches, the interior offers a spacious and luxurious environment. The Gulfstream G650 comfortably accommodates up to 19 passengers, with seating that can convert into beds for long-haul flights. Add to that a 195 cubic feet baggage compartment, and you have ample storage for all essentials.

Range of Gulfstream G650

The G650 can fly up to 7,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of Mach 0.90, meaning it effortlessly connects far-flung cities like New York and Dubai. Its extended-range version, the G650ER, stretches this reach to 7,500 nautical miles, making it a true globe-trotter.

Powerful Rolls-Royce BR725 Engines

At the heart of the G650 are two Rolls-Royce BR725 A1-12 engines, known for their reliability and performance. Each engine delivers 16,900 pounds of thrust, giving the G650 the muscle it needs for both short takeoffs and sustained long-haul flights. This engine shares almost similar core like the previously used BR710 of G500 series. However, the 725’s have a larger fan delivering more thrust and a quieter experience. These engines provide a 10000 hour overhaul interval making it cost friendly to maintain. That means if you fly 500 hours per year, it would take 20 years for the overhaul to be necessary! 

Speed, Altitude, and Takeoff Capabilities

Gulfstream G650 can fly at a maximum speed of Mach 0.9 and can fly up to 51000 feet. However its cruising speed is Mach 0.8 and initial cruising altitude is 41000 feet. It has a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of 99,600 pounds (45,179 kg), allowing for a generous combination of passengers, luggage, and fuel. Despite this capacity, it can still achieve its full range of 7,000 nautical miles, connecting distant cities like Los Angeles and Sydney without compromise.

Gulfstream has equipped this aircraft with some of the most advanced systems available, ensuring peace of mind for passengers and crew. For starters, the Enhanced Vision System (EVS) improves situational awareness by using infrared technology to provide clear visuals during low-visibility conditions, such as fog or nighttime operations.

Avionics and Fly-by-Wire

In late September 19, Gulfstream Announced of their new addition the G700, considered as a successor of the G650. Despite new additions to the Gulfstream fleet, the G650 continues to be a popular choice. Till date, it costs around 73-78 Million USD to buy a brand new of these jets.
